At most specialty programs males and females are strictly segregated and relationships are restricted. This often disallows the normal maturation in developing healthy norms concerning the opposite sex. At Pillars of Hope, an environment where appropriate interaction between young men and young women is established. With parental approval, chaperoned dating is allowed under circumstances that allow for healthy practices in interacting with the opposite
sex. All advanced students wanting to participate in this option must complete our required Dating and Courtship Etiquette class. This is an elective course where students learn basic standards of behavior with the opposite sex and wise dating habits are established. At Pillars of Hope, young men are taught what it really means to be truly "a gentleman", specifically in dealing with young women. The young women in our care are taught what it means to be a lady--what is appropriate and what is not. Young women are taught to demand the respect that they naturally deserve as equal partners in all relationships.
Please note that this option is only available to advanced students with parental approval who have pre-qualified themselves for this privilege by taking this class. This is not to say that all students will not have appropriate male-female interaction. In the school's coed environment, there are many opportunities for all students to appropriately interact with other young men and young women. Our many activities include frequent dances, talent
nights, and off-campus excursions both educational and recreational.
